MP Shareef Appointed as Deputy Chair of Diamond Jubilee Committee

Abdullah Shareef, the Member of Parliament for the Kelaa constituency and Chairman of Victory Sports Club, has been appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Diamond Jubilee Committee. He replaces Ahmed Mubeen in this role.

The Diamond Jubilee Committee was established by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to organize and coordinate activities marking the 75th anniversary of official football in the Maldives. The committee is chaired by Ali Suzain, a highly experienced coach who has previously managed the National Team and Victory Sports Club, and is currently the head coach of New Radiant Sports Club. Other members of the committee include Abdullah Azmeen, Chairman of Club Valencia, and Abdul Latheef Mohamed, the Member of Parliament for the Dhidhdhoo constituency.

The Diamond Jubilee Committee has planned a series of events to celebrate 75 years of Maldivian football, including invitational tournaments scheduled for February and June this year. The tournament in February is specifically designed for the Under-19 category, with invitations extended to several high schools in Male’, including CHSE-Male’, CHSE-Hulhumale’, Ahmadhiyya International School, and Villa High School.

Furthermore, an international invitational tournament is slated for June. Invitations for this competition are expected to be extended to the national teams of neighboring Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

To lead the Senior Men’s National Football Team for this tournament, István Urbányi of Hungary has been appointed as the head coach. Urbányi, who has previously served two terms as the national team’s coach, will also take on the responsibilities of Technical Director at FAM.
