MoU Signed with Sri Lanka to Provide Training for Foreign Affairs Staff

An MoU has been signed between the Maldives and Sri Lanka regarding the provision of training for foreign affairs staff. This MoU was signed during a special ceremony held as part of the official visit of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the Maldives, at the invitation of the President of the Maldives. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake participated in this ceremony.

The MoU was developed between the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives and the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute of Sri Lanka. On behalf of the Maldives, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel signed the agreement, while the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister signed on behalf of the Sri Lankan government. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that in implementing the Maldives’ foreign policy, staff working in the foreign affairs sector need to be diplomats with internationally recognized skills to assist the President and Chief Diplomat. They also noted that to promote such a professional service, the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives provides special training, skills, and experience needed for the staff.

During the Sri Lankan President’s visit to the Maldives, one of the agreements exchanged between the two countries is between the Bandaranaike International Institute of Diplomatic Studies of Sri Lanka and the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this agreement will provide opportunities for exchanging various training programs between the two countries. They also mentioned that it will facilitate the sharing of experiences in this field between the two nations.
