The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has stated that action will be taken against the Askoi Group after an issue surfaced where they collected money for Umrah trips but informed people they couldn’t travel just as the departure date approached. This is the second time such an issue has arisen with Askoi. A problem where Askoi Group collected money claiming to take people for Umrah is being shared by the public on social media. Accordingly, after informing some people to depart on the 24th of this month, they were told a week before departure that they couldn’t travel.
Regarding this issue, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, said that information about Askoi Umrah Company collecting money for Umrah trips and then not departing on the scheduled date, leaving people stranded, has come to the ministry’s attention. The minister has stated that necessary steps will be taken by reporting this matter to the police and action will be taken in accordance with regulations.
While the minister revealed that action will be taken against the Askoi Group again, previously, the Islamic Ministry had fined the group 130,000 rufiyaa for violating an agreement between the ministry and the group. Additionally, regarding an issue where they didn’t take a group of people who had paid in advance for Umrah during this year’s Ramadan, they were also ordered to refund the money to those individuals at that time.
