Real Madrid’s midfielder and captain Luka Modric has asked the team’s supporters to smile and not cry. He made this request while bidding farewell to Real Madrid supporters at the club’s stadium after a match, following 13 years with the club. The 39-year-old midfielder has decided to leave Real Madrid after this season. This is because the club also decided not to renew his contract. However, Modric said he will leave Real after playing in the Club World Cup starting next month.
Speaking to supporters after tonight’s match against Real Sociedad in the Spanish League, the Croatian captain said that the 13 years he spent at Real were happy days. “Don’t cry at all, because this (my departure) is now over. Now smile. Because this is now finished,” Modric said.

Modric joined Real Madrid in 2012 from England’s Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, he has played 394 matches for Real, scoring 30 goals. With him, Real has won the Spanish League four times. They won the European Champions League six times. They won the FIFA Club World Cup four times and the Copa del Rey three times. Additionally, as a Real player, he won the 2018 World Cup Best Player award and the Ballon d’Or award given to the world’s best player.
Real has decided to hold a special ceremony in honor of Modric before his departure. In addition to him, coach Carlo Ancelotti will also leave Real Madrid after this season.
