
The Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Abdullah Rafiu, and the British Ambassador to the Maldives, Nicholas David Lowe, have held consultative talks to strengthen ties in the field of sports. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Sports, focused on potential areas of collaboration between the two countries to develop the sports sector in the Maldives.
During the meeting, Minister Rafiu briefed the Ambassador on the current state of sports in the Maldives. Additionally, the Minister shared information about the recentd information about the recent amendments made to the Sports Act. Both officials discussed the progress expected in Maldivian sports as a result of these amendments to the Sports Act. Among other topics discussed in the meeting, they exchanged ideas on ways to assist in capacity building in technical areas. In this regard, they deliberated on planning and implementing programs such as training coaches and referees with the assistance of the United Kingdom.
The United Kingdom is a country that maintains close relations with the Maldives. As such, the UK is currently conducting numerous programs to train Maldivians in various technical fields.
