MIFCO has been expanding its operations with the aim of making the fishing industry and fishermen’s efforts more profitable and sustainable. As they prepare to start purchasing fish from Fuvahmulah City this month, they are also getting ready to begin exporting fish directly from Addu City next month. MIFCO has also stated that preparations are underway to start value-added fish processing activities in Addu City within this year.

As part of efforts to improve the condition of MIFCO’s centers and increase processing capacity, plans have been made to enhance the fish purchasing facilities at Kooddoo Fisheries Complex by repairing the harbor-front roads and upgrading the local production factory. Furthermore, urgent repair and maintenance work has already begun at the Felivaru Cannery. MIFCO also informed that they are preparing to open and operationalize the fish purchasing center being established in Gd. Thinadhoo by late 2026, and are making arrangements this year to begin purchasing yellowfin tuna caught in the north and south regions.
