In alignment with the aspirations of the people, the government is currently prioritizing large-scale land reclamation projects to drive infrastructure development. Most notable among these are the “Ras Malé” project and the reclamation of Hulhumalé Phase 3, both aimed at providing a permanent solution to the housing crisis in the Greater Malé Region. To date, 280 hectares have been reclaimed under the Ras Malé project, while 49 hectares of Hulhumalé Phase 3 have been completed. Furthermore, the reclamation of 115 hectares of land for the development of HA. Dhidhdhoo and its airport has also commenced. Utilizing some of the world’s largest dredgers, these projects are set to bring revolutionary changes to the Maldives’ economy and housing sector, according to the government.
