Ahmed Saleem, the Member of Parliament for the Eydhafushi constituency, has disclosed that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) offered him bribes to support their efforts to impeach President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Saleem stated that although the MDP promised to fulfill any of his requests in exchange for his participation in the impeachment vote, he rejected the offer. He further noted that the MDP’s efforts failed because several of its own members prioritized national interests and aligned themselves with the government.
Additionally, Saleem expressed his support for the initiative to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day. He highlighted that conducting elections in this manner would significantly reduce state expenditure and provide greater convenience for the public. Furthermore, Saleem remarked that he believes President Muizzu is politically poised to become the first president in Maldivian history to serve a second consecutive term.
