In the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League, Maziya Sports & Recreation secured their second league victory by defeating TC Sports Club. Maziya won tonight’s match with a 2-0 score. Going into the match, TC had previously suffered a heavy defeat against New Radiant Sports Club in their opening fixture, while Maziya had beaten Eagles in their first match. With these two wins from two matches, accumulating 6 points, Maziya has now climbed to the top of the league table.
In the match played at the National Football Stadium, neither team created many opportunities to score. In the very first minute of the game, which Maziya largely controlled, a cross from the wing by Hamza Mohamed was shot by Maziya’s foreign forward Sergio Mendy from inside the penalty area, only to hit the side post. Sergio later had another good chance to score. The first goal of the match came in the 8th minute. Maziya took the lead when Sergio scored with a header from a ball crossed by Hamza from outside the area. However, Maziya did not manage to launch many other dangerous attacks at TC’s goal after this.
Maziya scored their second goal in the 43rd minute, just before the end of the first half. Naiz Hassan carried the ball into the area, then crossed it to Hamza, who was outside the goal area. Hassan Nazeem then slotted it into the net. In the second half, Maziya tried to create more attacking opportunities, but attempts on goal were few. In the 70th minute, Hamza, finding himself free outside the penalty area, shot towards goal, but the ball went over the crossbar. Maziya’s third goal was scored by Mohamed Ilaan Imran, who received a ball from substitute Nashaah Ibrahim Nasir inside the area and shot it, with the ball deflecting off the post and going in. Maziya is scheduled to face Super Sports Club next Tuesday in the league.
