Manchester United has been eliminated from the English League Cup, also known as the Carabao Cup, in the second round after losing to fourth-division Grimsby Town in a penalty shootout with a score of 12-11. In this match played at Grimsby’s stadium, Manchester United’s manager Rubenben Amorim made changes to the first team, including Andre Onana as the goalkeeper. Forward Amad, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro were among those on the bench. In this competitive match from both teams, Grimsby’s Charles Vernam scored a goal in the 22nd minute, giving his team the lead. Eight minutes later, Tyreece Worrall took advantage of a mistake by United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana to score, increasing the gap between the two teams.

In the second half of the second half of the match, Amorim made changes to the team. In the 75th minute, Amad scored a goal, renewing the team’s hopes. The match was equalized for United by a goal from Harry Maguire with just a minute left in regular time. As the full-time score was 2-2, the match went to a penalty shootout to penalty shootout to determine the winner. Even after the first five penalties, the teams were tied, so each team continued to take additional penalties until the final score of 12-11 was reached. United lost the match when Amad’s second penalty attempt was unsuccessful.

With Manchester United’s loss and elimination from this tournament, it marks the first time the club has been defeated by a fourth-division English club. This was the first meeting between these two teams since 1948, and Grimsby Town has highlighted this victory as one of the biggest achievements in their club’s history.
