A large iftar (breaking of the fast) has been hosted in Gaza, Palestine with the help of Maldivians. This iftar was organized and held by International Aid Campaign (IAC), a Maldivian non-governmental organization that provides humanitarian aid. According to information provided by IAC, more than a hundred people participated in this iftar. Additionally, IAC stated that they have planned to conduct other activities in Gaza such as more iftar events and distribution of iftar packages.
These activities are taking place at a time when the situation in Gaza is deteriorating day by day. The Maldivian government has strongly condemned Israel’s recent decision to stop allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza. Since Israel began its attacks on Palestine on October 7, 2023, the situation in Gaza has drastically worsened. So far, these attacks have resulted in the martyrdom of more than 48,000 people and injuries to over 100,000 people.
Due to this war, 85 percent of Gaza’s population has been forced to leave their homes. Currently, more than half a million people in Gaza have fallen into hunger and starvation. At such a critical time, the efforts made by Maldivians to help the people of Gaza are being noted by many as a beautiful example of humanity.
