The national airline, Maldivian, has decided to start flights between Hanimaadhoo and Bangalore. These flights are scheduled to begin on May 15th. Maldivian stated that these flights will make it easier for people from the northern atolls of the Maldives to travel to India. They also noted that it will help bring tourists from India to the Maldives. Ticket bookings for these flights will be available from the 16th of this month. Maldivian has decided to operate 2 flights per week between Hanimaadhoo and Bangalore. These flights will be on Sundays and Thursdays every week.
Regarding these flights, Maldivian’s Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said that while Maldivian is already operating flights between Hanimaadhoo and Trivandrum in India, this new destination is part of Maldivian’s efforts to connect the northern Maldives with various cities abroad. Maldivian currently operates 2 flights per week between Hanimaadhoo and Trivandrum.

Expanding Maldivian’s services and starting flights to many international destinations is a goal of the government. In line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledge, a wide-body aircraft was brought to the national airline on January 6th this year. Currently, Maldivian’s wide-body aircraft is operating flights to 3 destinations in China: Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. The airline is working to bring an additional aircraft this year and is making extensive efforts to expand flights to more European destinations.
