A delegation from the “Global Sumoud Flotilla,” an international initiative dedicated to drawing global attention to the humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip, has arrived in the Maldives. During their visit, the delegation held high-level meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, and the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
The delegation is visiting at the invitation of the International Aid Campaign (IAC). In their discussions, the Maldivian state leaders commended the flotilla’s members for their tireless advocacy and humanitarian efforts on behalf of the Palestinian people, offering their full encouragement for the mission.
During these meetings, the Speaker of the Parliament emphasized that although the Maldives is a nation heavily reliant on tourism, the decision to ban Israeli passports was a firm and principled step taken in solidarity with Palestine. Furthermore, he reaffirmed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights on the international stage.
The primary objective of the delegation’s visit is to enhance Maldivian participation in the flotilla’s activities and to explore collaborative avenues for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. The Sumoud Flotilla is a global movement that peacefully advocates for the lifting of the Gaza blockade and the unhindered delivery of essential humanitarian assistance.
