The Maldives achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector this January, welcoming a record-breaking 224,788 visitors. This figure represents a 4.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Tourism Minister Thariq Ibrahim attributed this success to the collective efforts of the industry and the government’s strategic policies aimed at sector development.
Russia, Italy, and China emerged as the leading source markets, contributing to a daily average of 7,251 arrivals. Velana International Airport remains the primary gateway for the vast majority of these visitors. This strong performance marks an incredibly promising start to the year for the Maldivian tourism industry.
