The Maldives Sports Awards, the nation’s premier event dedicated to developing sports and recognizing the achievements of athletes, is scheduled to take place on the 15th of next month. Speaking to “PSM News” regarding the preparations, the Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, stated that the Award Committee is working diligently and noted that this year’s ceremony will introduce several new elements compared to previous years.
“Unlike preceding years, we have decided to include official certificates alongside the awards this time. The rationale behind this is to provide athletes with tangible documentation that can be easily added to their professional CVs, helping them justify and validate their achievements,” Minister Rafiu explained.
The Minister further noted that the awarding process is being carried out expeditiously in collaboration with various sports associations. He added that the Award Committee is currently in the process of gathering data and verifying its accuracy. Sharing details regarding the schedule and venue, the Minister said, “We have planned to hold the Sports Award night on the evening of February 15th at the Social Centre, maintaining our traditional theme.”
In his remarks, the Minister highlighted that the ceremony would feature a wide range of activities, some of which he shared with “PSM News.” “I hope that the impactful contributions made to sports institutions and the entire sporting community will be well showcased. Furthermore, numerous initiatives specifically dedicated to athletes are being implemented. Therefore, God willing, we intend to celebrate these milestones during the award night,” Minister Rafiu said, emphasizing that the event would reflect the aspirations and desires of the Maldivian sporting family.
The Maldives Sports Awards was inaugurated in 2022 as a platform to honor and appreciate the contributions of athletes. It is noteworthy that this ceremony has become a highly anticipated event within the Maldivian sports community.
