The Maldives has tonight issued an urgent appeal for a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, following the escalation of military actions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
In response to strikes launched by Israeli and American forces against Iranian interests, Iran has retaliated by targeting Israeli territories and U.S. military installations across the region. This exchange has triggered widespread instability and heightened tensions throughout the Middle East.
In a formal statement released tonight, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives urged all parties to immediately halt military operations. The Ministry emphasized the critical need for all nations to prioritize peaceful resolutions and to adhere strictly to international law.
Furthermore, the statement underscored that every nation must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of others. It highlighted that resolving disputes through diplomatic dialogue is essential for maintaining global peace and security.
The ongoing conflict has also caused significant disruption to international aviation, as several countries in the region have closed their airspace. This has led to the cancellation of numerous flights to the Maldives, leaving many tourists stranded and impacting the nation’s travel sector.
