The Maldives has called for taking additional measures and providing cooperation to end the inhumane acts being carried out by Jews against the helpless people of Palestine in Gaza. The Maldives made this call in a speech delivered by Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, at the “High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” held at the UN Headquarters in New York from July 28 to 30.

In his speech, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, called on the international community to prioritize diplomacy and multilateralism to end the deliberate inhumane acts and mass killings being carried out by Israel in Palestine.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of recognizing East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine and the right to exist as an independent state based on the pre-1967 borders, as well as ensuring the continuation of assistance provided by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He then stated that the Maldives is ready to provide assistance to the extent possible for the implementation of the Arab Reconstruction Plan.

The purpose of this conference, mandated by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81 adopted on December 3, 2024, is to promote the implementation of UN resolutions related to the Question of Palestine and the Two-State Solution. The conference is chaired by the Foreign Ministers of France and Saudi Arabia. The conference was suspended in mid-June due to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and resumed on July 28 for three days.

Since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed leadership, the Maldives’ efforts in defense of Palestine and against the Jews have reached a new level, along with the measures taken and work done. One of the most notable actions is the government’s proposal to amend the law to prevent entry into the Maldives with Israeli passports, and the implementation of this measure. This decision became a world-shocking resolution, earning praise and appreciation from Muslim leaders and countries supporting Palestine. It is a fact that everyone today acknowledges that President Mohamed Muizzu is the only leader who dared to put into practice the ban on Israeli passports, while others in various governments merely talked about it.
