President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Maldives is one of only eight nations to have successfully finalized 100% of its Hajj arrangements in Saudi Arabia for the current year. In his Presidential Address, the President highlighted that the Maldives’ inclusion in the “Makkah Route” initiative has facilitated unprecedented conveniences for pilgrims.
Key improvements include the upgrading of accommodation in Mina to B-category tents and the introduction of high-speed rail travel between the holy cities of Makkah and Medina. Furthermore, the President noted the provision of free medical services for Hajj pilgrims and the enactment of a new Zakat Act designed to streamline and strengthen the Zakat system. He further revealed that these reforms have led to a significant increase in contributions, with last year recording the highest Zakat collection in the past five years.
