MACL to Establish FRCs in 63 Islands

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been entrusted with establishing Fitness and Recreation Centers in 63 islands across the Maldives. The agreement to establish these Fitness and Recreation Centers (FRCs), which is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledges, was signed at a special ceremony held at H. Meeru Maa. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Sports Ministry and Members of Parliament representing the constituencies where the FRCs will be established.

The agreement for constructing a total of 63 Fitness and Recreation Centers was signed by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Abdullah Rafiu, on behalf of the Sports Ministry. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited, signed on behalf of MACL. Establishing Fitness and Recreation Centers on all inhabited islands of the Maldives by 2026 is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledges. To achieve this, the Sports Ministry has so far assigned 87 FRCs to be established by state-owned companies and private companies.

Of these, three FRCs have been completed, while work on 28 projects is currently ongoing. Additionally, the contract phase for establishing 43 FRCs is in progress, and the Sports Ministry confirms Ministry confirms that contracts for an additional 21 FRCs will be awarded this year and next year.
