President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said last night that MACL (Maldives Airports Company Limited) will bring three dredgers this year to reclaim the lands assigned to the company from the land reclamation projects that have been initiated in various regions of the Maldives. During his trip to Shaviyani Atoll, at a large gathering held in Komandoo last night, the President said that some opposition parties are criticizing the simultaneous initiation of such projects in multiple islands. Responding to these comments, the President stated that every government action is based on a plan and that all land reclamation projects will be carried out simultaneously.

Noting that MACL has also been assigned land reclamation projects in some atolls, the President said that they are very well prepared for this task.

The three dredgers MACL will bring:

  • Before the end of this month, an 11,000-ton dredger will be brought
  • In the third week of November, a 40,000-ton dredger will be brought to the Maldives, which will work in Greater Malé
  • The third dredger will be brought to the Maldives in December, starting with the project in Ha. Dhidhdhoo

The President said that after completing Ha. Atoll, the dredger will come to reclaim land needed for the airports in Sh. Atoll. He also said that after completing all the land reclamation planned in Sh. Atoll, they will finish the remaining work in Kaafu Atoll. Additionally, the President said that MACL has signed an agreement with another company to complete the projects in the Malé area. He said that this company will also bring dredgers.
