The American Fenway Sports Group, which manages Liverpool, has begun efforts to acquire the Spanish club Getafe. Getafe is a club founded in 1983 that has been competing in the Spanish League. Fenway Sports Group’s previous attempts to purchase the club were unsuccessful due to Getafe’s president Angel Torres’ unwillingness to sell. However, the deal now seems to be moving forward. This is because Torres has decided to sell the club for 116 million euros instead of the previously quoted 185 million euros.
Fenway Sports Group has been successfully managing Liverpool for 15 years now. The group, which also manages baseball and basketball clubs in addition to football, has expressed interest in buying a Spanish club to expand its sports business. Looking at the past 10 years, Liverpool is the most successful club in England after Manchester City. Since Fenway Sports Group took over, the club has won the English Premier League twice and played in the Champions League final three times, lifting the trophy once. Additionally, the club has won two FA Cups, two League Cups, and one Club World Cup.
