Liverpool have been knocked out of the English Carabao Cup or League Cup in the round of 16 after losing 3-0 to Crystal Palace. Coach Arne Slot made a total of 10 changes to the team that lost 3-2 to Brentford in the Premier League this week, giving three young players the opportunity to start for the first team. With this defeat, Liverpool have now lost six of their last seven matches.

In a match where Liverpool’s defenders displayed very poor performance, Ismaila Sarr scored in the 41st minute of the first half to give Crystal Palace the lead. Four minutes later, he scored another goal to extend the gap between the two teams. Sarr’s first goal came from taking advantage of a mistake by young defender Joe Gomez, while the second goal also resulted from errors made by Liverpool’s defenders. Crystal Palace’s third goal was scored by Jeremie Pino with just two minutes remaining in regular time.

Before Jeremie Pino scored this goal, Liverpool’s young 18-year-old defender Amara Nallo was shown a red card and sent off by the referee in the 79th minute of the match. Liverpool will face Aston Villa in the Premier League this Saturday before taking on Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday. In this tournament last night, Newcastle United, the most recent champion, defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 to secure a place in the quarter-finals. Newcastle will face Fulham in the quarter-finals.
