The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand are scheduled to visit Malaysia tomorrow for discussions on ending the intense confrontations between the two countries.

Both countries have been exchanging attacks in recent days, as weeks of tension over territorial disputes near their border escalated into a major confrontation, including an incident where a fighter jet was used to drop bombs on Cambodian territory.

The Thai government has announced that their delegation will be led by interim Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, while Malaysia stated that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will participate in the talks scheduled for tomorrow.

The exchange of attacks began at a time when tensions were high due to disagreements over border sovereignty between the two countries. On May 28, clashes occurred between border guards of both countries, resulting in exchanges of fire and the death of a Cambodian soldier.

In the most intense attacks exchanged between the two countries over the past 10 years, the death death toll has risen to 30, including eight civilians and 13 soldiers from Thailand.

Due to the exchanges of attacks, more than 200,000 people living near the border have been evacuated to safer areas.

The decision for tomorrow’s talks comes after Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim proposed a ceasefire last week, and U.S. President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a ceasefire.
