The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage has opened applications for designing the logo to be used for the Maldives’ proud 60th Independence Day. The ministry has invited interested parties to design the logo according to the “Guidelines for Designing the Logo for the 60th Independence” and submit it before the 15th of this month. The ministry stated that the best logo from the submissions will be selected by a panel of judges appointed for this purpose. It has been decided to award a cash prize of 30,000 Rufiyaa for the logo selected as the winner from the submissions.

“Guidelines for Designing the Logo for the 60th Independence”

  • The logo should symbolize Islam, Dhivehi language, culture and Maldivian heritage, as well as Maldivian identity and the continuity of the Maldivian state’s independence on Maldivian soil
  • It should represent the 60 years of the Maldivian state’s sovereignty and independence, and symbolize the hopes for maintaining independence in the future
  • The colors used in the logo should be national colors, and if an additional color is used, blue, which represents the Maldivian sea and environment, can be used
  • The design should be easily usable as a badge and sticker for various purposes related to the occasion
  • It should be a design that is easy to use on banners and printed materials, as well as on items like t-shirts
  • It should also be suitable for use in electronic media, animations, and videos

The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage said that the submitted logos will be evaluated based on quality and technical standards, originality, creativity, and craftsmanship. They will also consider how well the logo represents Maldivian identity and the characteristics of 60 years of independence. The Maldives Independence Day is celebrated every year on July 26th. This day is commemorated in connection with the day when the Maldives gained independence from British rule, which had been in place since 1887. On July 26, 1965, then Prime Minister President Ibrahim Nasir signed the independence agreement, bringing an end to British control and securing independence for the Maldivian nation. This year will mark the proud 60th Independence Day of the Maldives.
