President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government is working on bringing large rocks in bulk for islands where work has been halted due to the unavailability of large rocks. Meeting with the people of Rathafandhoo, the President said that the harbor development project for the island will begin this year and that a solution will also be found for the issue of coastal erosion. He said that there are difficulties in obtaining the large rocks needed for the work and that the government is working on bringing large rocks in bulk for projects that have been halted.
“The coastal protection project that was started and assigned to MTCC has been delayed due to material shortages and financial constraints. There are other islands too where work has been delayed in this manner. We are looking to complete the materials needed for all islands where work has been halted. The reason work has been halted in most islands is the unavailability of large rocks. In the past week, we have planned ways to bring large rocks in bulk to the Maldives for all the islands that need them,” the President said.
According to the President, projects in many islands have been halted due to the unavailability of large rocks needed for shore protection. Therefore, to find a solution to this issue, the President said that relevant authorities have been instructed to bring large rocks in bulk for all islands, and the necessary funds were arranged last week.
“Plans have now been made, ways to do things have been decided, and funds would have been arranged by the end of last week,” the President said.
Additionally, the President said that this government will provide a solution to the issue of coastal erosion after the completion of land reclamation, revetment, and harbor development projects. He added that when this work is completed, there will be a pleasant area in the island where people can enjoy swimming and having fun in the sea.
