The land reclamation and coastal protection work required for the development of B. Thulhaadhoo Airport has been assigned to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The agreement for land reclamation and coastal protection needed for establishing a domestic airport in Thulhaadhoo was signed after cancelling a previous agreement signed in 2023 for the same work.

The Thulhaadhoo domestic airport project is part of the national policy to establish a domestic airport network where every inhabited island, resort, and industrial zone in the Maldives is within a 30-minute reach of a domestic airport. The land reclamation and coastal protection work has been assigned to the company for 570.2 million rufiyaa. The project is scheduled to be completed within 660 days.

As part of this project, the airport being developed in Thulhaadhoo will feature a 1800-meter long and 30-meter wide runway, developed to Code 3C standards. According to the Ministry of Construction, the work involves reclaiming 55.4 hectares of land, constructing 2804 meters of rock revetment, and 1677 meters of geobag revetment.

Previously, this work was assigned to Capital Marine and Construction Company. At that time, they were tasked with reclaiming 44.70 hectares of land. The agreement for land reclamation and coastal protection work for B. Thulhaadhoo Airport development was signed by State Minister Hassan Rasheed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction. Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed signed on behalf of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company.
