President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the success achieved by Maldivian badminton player Laiba Ahmed Mahloof at the Armenian Youth Open is a great honor for the Maldivian nation. Laiba has won 3 gold medals at the Armenian Youth Open. This is the first time the Maldives has won a gold medal in the junior category of an international badminton tournament. The President congratulated Laiba for winning 3 gold medals in an international tournament, saying that Laiba is an example for every child who is working towards a good future in sports.
In a post shared on social media, the President said, “The success Laiba has achieved in this international junior badminton tournament is a very great honor for the Maldivian nation. And this is an example for every child who is working towards a good future in sports.” The President also wished Laiba further success and gold rankings, and encouraged her to move forward with courage and skill. 12-year-old Laiba has won gold medals in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events at the ongoing Armenian Youth Open 2025 in Armenia.
This is the first time Laiba has won gold medals in an international tournament. She has been competing in international tournaments since 2022. Participating in European tournaments, Laiba has won 5 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.
