Former coach Jurgen Klopp says he turns off the TV when Liverpool supporters mock the club’s defender Trent Alexander-Arnold. He said this while speaking at an event held by the Liverpool Foundation. Klopp is the coach who ended Liverpool’s trophy drought after taking over in 2015, winning the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup for Liverpool. It was also Klopp who brought Arnold from the academy to the first team and started playing him before stepping down as coach after last season.

Liverpool supporters began mocking Arnold after he decided to leave the club and transfer to Real Madrid in Spain after this season. Regarding this, Klopp said he doesn’t want to say that supporters shouldn’t be disappointed. “I’m not saying they (supporters) should change their way of thinking. And I’m not talking because I don’t like the way they think. I’m not trying to change anything. But mocking him like that is not something we should do,” Klopp said.

However, Klopp said he turns off the TV when Liverpool supporters start mocking Arnold. “I watch Liverpool matches. I can’t believe that’s something we (Liverpool supporters) would do. What they’re doing is wrong. I’m not saying supporters won’t be disappointed that he’s leaving. But before mocking him, they need to think about what he’s done for this club. About the success he’s brought. I hope they give him respect,” Klopp said.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has also asked supporters not to mock Arnold.
