Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of King Charles III, has been arrested on allegations of sharing classified government documents with Jeffrey Epstein. Earlier this month, British authorities confirmed an investigation into claims that Andrew, during his tenure as a Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, shared confidential state records with Epstein. According to millions of Epstein-related documents recently shared by the United States, it is alleged that in 2010, while serving as a trade envoy, Andrew provided Epstein with official reports concerning diplomatic visits to Vietnam, Singapore, and several other nations. Following these developments, he was taken into custody by Thames Valley Police on February 19th.
The arrest of a member of the Royal Family is an unprecedented event in modern British history. In response to the arrest, King Charles has assured the police and relevant authorities of the Royal Family’s full cooperation. He further emphasized that the rule of law must be upheld without exception. Andrew, 66, is the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Duke of York was previously pressured to step back from his royal titles and public duties after his close associations with Epstein were brought to global attention.
Andrew previously served as a high-ranking officer in the Royal Navy and played a significant role in the Falklands War against Argentina in the 1980s. He also served as the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, a position he was forced to relinquish in 2011. He effectively withdrew from all royal duties in 2019. Subsequently, in January 2022, Buckingham Palace stripped him of his military titles and royal patronages. This action was taken under the direct command of Queen Elizabeth II prior to her passing. The decision to distance him from the monarchy followed legal proceedings initiated against him involving his ties to Epstein, a convicted offender known for sex trafficking and the exploitation of minors. Andrew continues to deny all allegations of wrongdoing.
