Following their victory in the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona players have expressed their delight while also voicing criticism towards Real Madrid’s performance.
Barcelona secured the title in a thrilling final held in Saudi Arabia, winning 3-2. After the match, several players criticized Real Madrid, suggesting that the team adopted an overly defensive approach throughout the game.
Forward Robert Lewandowski admitted his surprise at Real Madrid’s deep defensive line.
“We are incredibly happy. Winning another trophy, especially by defeating Real Madrid, is a great achievement. This was a significant match. We performed exceptionally well in the first half, and maintained our composure in the second to secure the win. That is what matters most. However, I was surprised by how much Real Madrid sat back and focused solely on defending,” the Polish striker remarked.
Lewandowski also praised his teammate Raphinha, who scored two goals during the match, noting that their partnership poses a significant threat to opponents.
“Raphinha knows how to find the back of the net; he is always in the right position. As a team, we are stronger together. This victory was a collective effort,” Lewandowski added.
Speaking after the game, Raphinha shared his excitement over Barcelona’s silverware success.
“We knew we had to win this match. I believe we played very well. They played very defensively, so I feel the final scoreline (being so close) does not fully reflect our dominance in the game,” Raphinha stated.
English forward Marcus Rashford also expressed his joy at winning his first trophy with Barcelona.
“I hope this success leads to more trophies this season. We played brilliantly today, proving that we can win matches at this high level. However, there are still areas where we can improve,” Rashford said.
Notably, Barcelona also defeated Real Madrid last season to claim the same title.
