Jameel sworn in as High Court Judge

Among the two individuals nominated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to fill the two vacant judge positions at the High Court, Mohamed Shahid, who was actively involved in PNC’s political activities and served as Deputy Minister of Homeland Security until recently, had his name withdrawn. Consequently, tonight, only Abdullah Jameel Moosa, former Civil Court Qazi, was sworn in as a judge. The High Court judge positions became vacant when former judges Abdullah Hameed and Mohamed Saleem were appointed to the Supreme Court.

The judicial appointment letter was presented to Jameel by JSC President Hussain Riza Adam at a special ceremony held at the Supreme Court tonight.

Jameel served as a Magistrate from 2003 to 2009 and as a Civil Court Qazi from 2009 to 2019. Notably, during his tenure as Qazi, he presided over several significant cases at the Civil Court. Abdullah Jameel Moosa holds a Bachelor of Sharia and Law with Honors from Kulliyyatul Dirasatil Islamiyya. Abdullah Jameel has served in the judiciary for over 15 years.

Jameel’s most recent position was as a Qazi at the Civil Court. After leaving his judicial position, Abdullah Jameel has been working as a legal counsel.
