U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Iran have agreed to stop exchanging attacks. Israel initiated attacks against Iran on June 13th, claiming it was to halt Iran’s nuclear program. In response, Iran launched a special military operation called “Operation True Promise 3” against Israel, causing significant damage. Subsequently, on June 22nd, the United States intervened by bombing three main Iranian nuclear facilities. In retaliation, Iran began a new military operation and attacked the U.S. Al Udeid military base in Qatar.
Regarding the cessation of attacks that have lasted for 12 days, Trump said he wanted to congratulate Iran and Israel for having the courage and wisdom to stop the 12-day war if things proceed as planned. He also expressed hope that things would continue as expected. Israel has not yet commented on this matter. However, an Iranian official has confirmed that Iran has agreed to stop retaliatory attacks. Nevertheless, Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that Iran would continue its attacks unless Israel stops its attacks.
Amir-Abdollahian said on June 24th that if Israel stops its illegal attacks on Iran before 4 AM Iran time, Iran does not intend to continue its attacks. Since then, Israel has not launched any attacks on Iran. In a post on X, Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran would make a final decision on stopping the exchange of attacks later. A senior White House official said that Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and arranged for the cessation of retaliatory attacks. He said Netanyahu agreed to stop the exchange of attacks if Iran does not launch further attacks.
Trump’s remarks suggest that both parties will have time to conclude their current military operations. Once these operations are completed, it is expected that the exchange of attacks will be halted in phases. It is understood that Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has been working with Iran to reach an agreement on stopping the exchange of attacks.
