Island Aviation has opened its first Engineering Service Building. The building has been inaugurated as the “Ali Firaq Engineering Service Building,” named after the late Ali Firaq, who worked in the company’s engineering department for many years. The Maldivian Engineering Service Building was officially opened in a special ceremony held at VIA by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, and the Managing Director of Island Aviation, Ibrahim Iyas.
Speaking at the ceremony, Island Aviation’s Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said that the idea for this building was first proposed by the late Ali Firaq in 2015. The proposal for this project was prepared and first submitted to management in 2016. The company’s board approved the necessary budget for this project in 2021, and it was contracted out in 2022.

The MD highlighted that the opening of this building marks a very special day in the company’s history. He stated that this was a dream realized through the courage and hard work of many people. “This building will provide numerous benefits to our employees. It will improve the working environment and create opportunities to further enhance the quality of work. This is the first building we have constructed specifically for maintaining our aircraft spare parts. It’s also a significant investment for the future of this company,” said MD Iyas.
Employees working in Maldivian’s Engineering Department also note that with this building, work will become more efficient and additional conveniences will be available. Island Aviation stated that they are working on improving the company’s financial situation. The company has emphasized that they are operating by utilizing the income sustainably.
