Five people have been killed in attacks targeting Kurdish fighters in Syria. The attacks were aimed at the Kurdish militant group, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The SDF suspects that the Islamic State (IS) group is behind the attacks in Deir ez-Zor. The SDF is a US-backed group. It played a key role in the US-led war against IS that began in 2019. The US launched the war against IS after the group took control of parts of Syria and Iraq and declared an Islamic caliphate.
IS has been defeated in the war. Its fighters have been pushed back and the territories under its control have been liberated. However, IS fighters are still active in some Middle Eastern countries. They are also working to expand their activities to Western and Asian regions. Deir ez-Zor is a city that was controlled by IS in 2014. The Syrian army liberated the area in 2017.
Renewed clashes in Al-Suwayda
As IS launches dangerous attacks targeting Kurds, clashes have again erupted in Syria’s Al-Suwayda, where dangerous confrontations occurred recently. An armed group operating in the area has attacked a Syrian military force. One soldier was killed and many were injured in attacks targeting neighborhoods in the southern region, according to state media. The clashes took place in an area inhabited by Druze people. Syrian media said an armed group had violated the ceasefire agreement in effect in the area. More than a hundred people were killed in clashes between Druze and Bedouins living in the area last month.
When the Syrian army began efforts to stop the clashes between Druze and Bedouins, Israel also got involved. They launched dangerous attacks targeting the soldiers sent to control the unrest, killing many soldiers. Although the US mediated an agreement to stop Israel’s terrorist attacks, Israel continues to attack Syria in violation of the agreement. On August 2, Israeli 2, Israeli forces also raided an area in southern Syria. These are crimes committed in violation of Syria’s sovereign independence.
