Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, has told the UN Security Council that Iran’s attacks on Israel are in self-defense and are targeting militarily important areas of Israel. In a letter sent to the UN Security Council, Iravani said that the attacks on Israel are proportionate to the attacks Israel has been carrying out against Iran. The letter also noted that if any other country assists Israel in the attacks it has been initiating against Iran since June 13, such countries would also bear legal responsibility for the attacks and would share in the consequences.

Speaking to journalists, Iravani highlighted America’s support for Israel. He said that without American weapons, intelligence information, and political backing, Israel would not have been able to attack Iran. He stated that America would share responsibility for the crimes Israel has committed against Iran. Emphasizing that Israel initiated the attacks, Iravani said that Iran does not initiate attacks on Israel and has not started any war. He dismissed claims about Iran being a threat as baseless.

In his letter to the UN Security Council, Iravani further stated that Iran is acting in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. According to that article, any measures taken in self-defense against an armed attack must be immediately reported to the 15-member Security Council.

The attacks Israel launched on Iran on June 13 targeted Iran’s military bases, nuclear facilities, and senior military commanders. In attacks carried out under the pretext of halting Iran’s nuclear project and eliminating its missile program, Israel killed 20 Iranian military commanders and six scientists leading the nuclear project. Additionally, many civilians were martyred and many others were injured. In retaliation for these attacks, Iran has launched a special military operation under which it continues to carry out powerful attacks against Israel. According to Israel’s UN ambassador, Danny Danon, Iran has launched 1,000 missile and drone attacks in the past 48 hours.
