Some foreign investors who have invested in the Maldives have stated that the country has become favorable for investments due to government support and simplification of various related procedures. The investors made these comments during a panel discussion held as part of the Maldives-Singapore Business Forum. Thomas Ademmer, Managing Director of Arial Bank Asia, a foreign bank that provides financial assistance to investors in the Maldives, said that the bank began providing financial assistance to those wishing to invest in the Maldives in 2006. He also noted that over the years, the Maldives has been recognized as a very active tourism market.
He highlighted that the tourism sector receives numerous bids and thatd that there are easy procedures in place for participating in these bids in the Maldives. He also noted that investors in the Maldives receive support from the government. “There are favorable and easy procedures for investing in the Maldives, especially in the tourism sector. It is one of the most active tourism markets in the Indian Ocean,” Ademmer said.

Speaking at the panel discussion, David Zhang, Chief Executive Officer of Pontiac Land Group, said that they first invested in Maldivian tourism in 2015. He stated that from that point onwards, they believed the tourism market in the Maldives could be further expanded. David said that at that time, the Maldives had tourism specifically catering to couples and honeymooners. However, he noted that this has changed, and the Maldives has now become a popular destination that is also family-friendly and attracts repeat visitors. David emphasized that Maldivian tourism has reached this point due to the opportunities facilitated and supported by the government for investors.
“While we previously invested in the ‘1 Island 1 Resort’ concept, we now have 4 resorts,” David said. Both Maldivian and foreign investors participated in the Maldives-Singapore Forum. This forum was held to provide information about investment opportunities in the Maldives to Singaporean investors. The government continues to hold business forums in various countries.
