Chinese President Xi Jinping has characterized India as a “good” neighbor, partner, and friend to China. In a message addressed to the President of India on the occasion of India’s Republic Day, President Xi noted that the relationship between India and China has strengthened significantly over the past year.
Furthermore, Xi emphasized that a robust and stable relationship between the two nations is vital for maintaining global peace and prosperity. President Xi stated that remaining as good neighbors, friends, and partners is in the best interest of both China and India. He also expressed his hope that the two countries could expand their cooperation into further sectors in the future and work together to overcome potential challenges and concerns.
India and China, both prominent global nuclear powers, are separated by a border spanning 3,800 kilometers. Disputes regarding the border between the two nations have arisen on various occasions since 1950. Notably, in 2020, clashes between Indian and Chinese troops near the Himalayan mountains resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers.
To repair the relationship, which had deteriorated significantly at that time, both countries initiated efforts last year and have held several high-level meetings. Following these efforts, direct flights between India and China were resumed last year, and the two nations have commenced extensive collaboration in the field of trade.
