India has handed over two “Arogya Maitri Health Cubes” or portable hospitals to the Maldives. As part of India’s ongoing assistance to develop the Maldives’ health sector, the “Arogya Maitri Health Cubes” were gifted to the Maldives today. These state-of-the-art “Arogya Maitri Health Cubes” are the world’s first portable hospitals that can be transported from one place to another.
These health cubes include facilities such as ICU, operation theater, power generator, blood testing equipment, and X-ray machines. Developed to provide high-quality emergency care to many people in major incidents, these medical cubes can operate continuously for 72 hours and have the capacity to treat 200 people. These cubes can be transported to any area by helicopter or parachute, and it takes only 12 minutes to set up and begin treatment. The cubes contain kits and medicines for various situations, as well as equipment needed for different setups based on the situation. The “Bhishm App” developed for using these cubes allows tracking of information and inventory of the mini-cubes.
The Ministry of Health stated that the Maldives Emergency Medical Service, operating under the ministry, will manage these portable cubes gifted by India. With India’s assistance in developing the Maldives’ health sector, significant progress has been made. In addition to infrastructure development, India continues to provide support and cooperation in training Maldivians in various medical fields. India is also the country that provides the most assistance to the Maldives in supplying resources to healthcare facilities in Male’ and the atolls, as well as during various health crises. For instance, India provided substantial assistance to the Maldives in supplying COVID-19 vaccines.
