The Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, has stated that increasing financial assistance for single parents is a crucial measure that could potentially reduce community poverty by 70 percent. In alignment with the President’s pledge, this policy adjustment ensures a monthly allowance of MVR 3,000 per child, up to a maximum of MVR 12,000 for four children. The primary objective of this initiative is to alleviate the vulnerabilities faced by families, ensuring children have access to quality education and the opportunity to become self-reliant, while ultimately fostering a more compassionate and supportive society.
