Manchester United secured a satisfying 2-1 victory against Chelsea in last night’s English Premier League match. This win marks United’s second victory in their five matches this season, bringing their total points to 7 and placing them 10th in the league table. On the other hand, Chelsea’s defeat has dropped them to 6th place with 8 points from five matches.
The match, played at Manchester United’s Old Trafford, saw Chelsea face challenges as early as the 5th minute when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was shown a red card and sent off for a foul on United’s forward Bryan Mbeumo outside the penalty area. This forced Chelsea’s coach Enzo Maresca to substitute Pedro Neto and Estevan William for Audero Bayo and goalkeeper Jorgensen. Additionally, Cole Palmer was substituted in the 21st minute due to an injury.
United took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Bruno Fernandes. Casemiro extended the lead in the 37th minute. However, Casemiro received a second yellow card in first-half stoppage time and was sent off.
In the second half, with both teams down to 10 players, Chelsea improved their performance. Their only goal came in the 80th minute, scored by Trevor Chalobah. Despite this loss, it’s worth noting that Chelsea’s last victory at Old Trafford was in 2013.
