Maldives Immigration has introduced a system to monitor vessel activities using modern Universal Automatic Identification System technology. Maldives Immigration stated that the Sea Port Division has established a robust system to oversee vessel movements. Under this arrangement, they now have the capability to identify in real-time the activities of all vessels sailing within a 30 nautical mile radius of the Male Port area.

Immigration said that the implementation of this system will greatly ease their operations. Previously, they explained, the estimated arrival times of ships to the Maldives were obtained through relevant institutions. This involved gathering such information through Customs and MPL, which required dedicated immigration staff. However, with the new system, these processes will be simplified. They can now determine the location of sea vessels and the times they arrive in and depart from the Maldives.

This system is a modern technology used in international-standard ports to enhance operations and ensure security measures. Maldives Immigration also stated that this system will further expedite the clearances given by the Sea Port Division and improve the quality of service.
