Last year, the Neurology Department of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) provided inpatient care to a total of 1,089 individuals, of whom 532 were treated for strokes. Medical professionals have highlighted that 70 percent of these stroke patients were male, while also noting a concerning increase in the prevalence of strokes among youth under the age of 40. To strengthen neurological care in the Maldives, the “National Center for Neuroscience and Stroke” has been inaugurated at Dharumavantha Hospital. This specialized center aims to establish a high-quality healthcare system equipped with modern facilities to serve the entire nation.
