President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that with the development projects being carried out by the government, Nilandhoo will truly take on the color of an urban center. The President said this while speaking at a meeting with the people of F. Nilandhoo. The President said that in line with his promise, he is giving special priority to the development of urban centers. While the President has decided to develop F. Nilandhoo as an urban center, he said that the airport project will be one of the biggest undertakings towards this goal. He added that Nilandhoo Airport will become one of the most modern and complete airports.

“We will complete the airport work within a maximum of two and a half years. This is a very important sustainable development project. The airport is the most crucial project for an urban center,” the President said. The President said that while the sewerage system is one of the biggest issues that the people of Nilandhoo need a solution for, that project will also begin during this trip. He stated that with a gravity sewerage system, a permanent solution to this problem will be brought within 2 years. With 90% of the water system network already completed, the President said that service will also begin before the end of this year. The President said that although they were ready to start health services like dialysis in the island, it had not been possible due to the lack of a safe water system on the island.

The President said that under the government’s promise to provide fuel to fishermen at affordable prices, the fuel storage facility being developed in Nilandhoo, specifically for this region, will be established by the end of March next year. The President said that preparations are underway to begin the work on 200 housing units, as announced by the government to solve Nilandhoo’s housing problem. He also announced that in the projects allocated for Nilandhoo next year, the government has decided to prioritize the construction of a most modern Islamic center and a high-quality sports complex. He added that a separate handball court will also be developed. The President has also announced that he has decided to start a project to provide quality health services in Nilandhoo.

“We will develop a 50-bed full-fledged hospital. This is being done with the help of Saudi funding. The funding has been secured. Preparations required to start the actual work are ongoing,” the President said. The President said that Nilandhoo will become one of the most advanced urban centers. He added that as the projects started by the government are completed, all the resources needed for the island will be fulfilled, and it will truly take on the color of an urban center.
