Hussain Afeef has been elected as the Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) during its 36th Annual General Meeting. Held at Kurumba Maldives, the meeting saw a significant turnout from members of the tourism sector. During the assembly, the late Mohamed Umar Manik, the former Chairman of MATI, was posthumously honored with the title of “Member of Honor” in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the industry.
The meeting also involved the election of the new Executive Board to lead MATI from 2026 to 2029, alongside the approval of the association’s budgets and reports for the upcoming years. Additionally, Ahmed Nazeer was elected as the Secretary General. The proceedings underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure the sustainable growth of Maldivian tourism. MATI remains the primary representative body for the industry, representing more than 120 resorts across the Maldives.
