Agreements have been officially signed to establish a Duty-Free Zone, Bonded Warehouse, and Bulk Cargo facilities at Hithadhoo Port. Mohamed Rishwan, the CEO of Hithadhoo Port Limited (HPL), stated that the introduction of these services would transform Hithadhoo Port into a central economic hub for the southern region.
This initiative is part of the government’s strategic efforts to strengthen the national port system and decentralize logistics, ensuring that goods arriving in Male’ can be efficiently distributed to the atolls. Furthermore, the establishment of cold storage facilities and the expansion of logistics services are expected to reduce commodity prices and completely revolutionize the Maldives’ commercial network by 2027.
