Several Lebanese soldiers were killed in a powerful explosion while inspecting and safely dismantling weapons at an arms depot. In a statement released by the Lebanese military, it was reported that efforts are underway to determine the cause of the explosion in the southern city of Tyre. Some security sources stated that the explosion was caused by weapons used in the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Tyre.
Israel launched severe attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon last year. This was in response to Hezbollah’s support for Gaza by attacking Israeli military positions near the regional border, following Israel’s aggressive attacks on Gaza that began on October 7, 2023.
A ceasefire agreement between the two parties was established in November 2024 with U.S. assistance. Under this agreement, the Lebanese army is required to confiscate weapons held by groups other than the Lebanese military. In return, Israel agreed to cease attacks on Lebanon.
