Hezbollah has issued a stern warning that any escalation in efforts to bring all weapons held by resistance groups under the control of the Lebanese military could trigger widespread unrest and significantly increase the risk of a civil war. This development follows increasing pressure from the Zionist entity and the United States on the Lebanese government to disarm these groups, a move that gained momentum in November 2024 following the establishment of a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and the Zionist forces. Hezbollah maintains that under the terms of the agreement, the requirement to lay down arms is specifically limited to the southernmost regions of Lebanon, near the border with the Zionist state.
In an interview with a Russian news outlet, senior Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qmati characterized the government’s attempts to expand the disarmament process as a major criminal act. He warned that such actions could lead to intensified confrontations and instability, potentially plunging the nation into a civil conflict. While the Lebanese government claims that the military has already secured control over the southern regions and brought the weapons held by resistance groups there under its supervision, the military reportedly plans to extend these disarmament operations to other parts of the country.
