Luisma Hernandez, the head coach of Maziya Sports and Recreation, has asserted that despite having already clinched the Dhiragu Dhivehi Premier League title, his objective remains to win every single match of the competition.
Reflecting on the recent encounter against New Radiant Sports Club, Hernandez noted that the team performed well and played without the typical pressures of a title race, given their secured position.
In an interview with PSM News following the match where New Radiant held the league champions to a draw, Hernandez emphasized that entering the game as confirmed champions allowed the team to play with a sense of freedom.
The match between Maziya and New Radiant ended in a 2-2 draw. With this result, Maziya maintains their lead at the top of the table with 45 points, while New Radiant solidified their third-place standing with 34 points from 17 matches.
Hernandez expressed disappointment regarding the events that unfolded in the final minutes of the game, describing the behavior observed from the sidelines and the stands as regrettable. He mentioned that while some New Radiant players disputed the penalty decision, the overall conduct from the bench and certain supporters was unprofessional. He noted that the closing moments of the match did not reflect the best spirit of the game.
New Radiant secured their equalizer in the final minute of stoppage time through a penalty. The spot-kick was awarded after Maziya’s goalkeeper, Hussain Shareef, committed a foul while attempting to stop Haji inside the area. Ali Ashfaq successfully converted the penalty, after which the referee immediately blew the final whistle.
Hernandez further observed that as the league draws to a close, the competition has significantly contributed to the development and progress of national team players. He concluded by expressing his profound gratitude to the Maziya organization, the loyal supporters, and his family in Spain for their continuous encouragement.
Maziya is set to face Club Odi in their final fixture of the league.
