
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been entrusted with establishing outdoor gyms in 71 islands across the Maldives. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to set up outdoor gyms on all inhabited islands of the Maldives by 2026. As part of the efforts to achieve this goal, an agreement to establish outdoor gyms on 71 islands was signed at a special ceremony held at H. Meerumaa. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Sports and members of parliament from various constituencies.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Sports by the Minister of Sports and Fitness, Abdullah Rafiu. On behalf of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the agreement was signed by the company’s Managing Director, Retired Brigadier General Ali Zuhair. With the 71 projects assigned to HDC as part of the effort to establish outdoor gyms on all islands by the end of next year, a total of 102 outdoor gym projects have been entrusted to government companies. Additionally, seven outdoor gym projects are underway through contracts with private companies.
It has been decided to assign the establishment of 41 more outdoor gyms this year and next year.
