The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been entrusted with the task of establishing housing for Hirimaradhoo residents in Hanimaadhoo. This assignment was made during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s current tour of South Thiladhunmathi Atoll. The framework agreement for establishing housing for Hirimaradhoo residents in Hanimaadhoo was formulated during a meeting between the President and the people of HDh. Hirimaradhoo. The agreement was signed by the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdullah Muttalib, on behalf of the ministry, and Managing Director Brigadier General (Rtd) Ali Zuhair on behalf of HDC.
Under this agreement, the framework will include not only the implementation of a housing project in the designated area in Hanimaadhoo for Hirimaradhoo residents but also the establishment of municipal also the establishment of municipal services. Due to its small population, HDh. Hirimaradhoo has not received adequate development. With a population of about 500 people, a large percentage already lives outside the island. The desire of all current residents is to relocate the island’s population to a more populous island for the development and satisfaction of the people.

The island’s affairs have reached a state where they must rely on expatriates for various matters. This is a great concern for the elderly residents of the island. The residents wish for the population to be relocated as soon as possible. Hirimaradhoo residents believe this will bring various advancements to the island’s people.
With unanimous agreement from all Hirimaradhoo residents, they requested the government last year to relocate the island’s population. Accepting the residents’ proposal, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to relocate the island’s population to HDh. Hanimaadhoo. While the Ministry of Home Affairs is working on this, Minister Adam Shareef Umar has stated that a roadmap will be developed and practical work will begin as soon as possible.
